Students will acquire knowledge and practical skills in the following subjects:
● Theory of the practice of hair design, including business practices and basic human
Anatomy and physiology.
● Shampooing includes draping, brushing, scalp manipulations, conditioning and rinsing.
● Scalp and hair analysis
● Haircutting and trimming including scissors, razor, thinning shears and clippers.
● Hair styling including wet, dry and thermal styling, braiding and styling aids.
● Cutting and trimming of facial hair, including a beard and mustache design and eyebrow, ear and nose hair trimming.
● Artificial hair.
● Permanent wave including sectioning, wrapping, preterm test curls, solution ,application, processing test curl, neutralizing and removal of chemicals.
● Chemical texture services including sectioning, stand test, relaxer application, and removal of chemicals.
● Hair coloring and bleaching including predisposition test and strand test, and
Measurement, mixing, application and removal of chemicals.
● Cleaning and disinfecting of individual workstations, individual equipment and tools
And proper use and storage of linens.
● Diseases and disorders of the scalp and hair.
● Safety including proper use and storage of chemicals, implements and electrical appliances.
● First aid as it relates to hair design.
WA State Laws and Regulations
Phase 1- Earth (0-300 Hours)
• New student Orientation
• Introductory theory & basic practical skills
• Safety and sanitation
• Intro to clinic floor and client consultation
Phase 2- Water (301-700 Hours)
• Continual progression through Milady Standard textbooks to expand knowledge
• Build upon foundational practical skills
• Begin practice on live clients, and build confidence
Phase 3- Fire (701-1100 Hours)
• Hands-on theory classes
• Review all subjects learned. and expand knowledge from part 1 and part 2
• Learn and practice more advanced techniques
• Focus on completing practical requirements
Phase 4- Air (1101-1400 Hours)
• Review Washington State rules and regulations, as well as business practices
• Employment preparation (resume, portfolio)
• Employer interview techniques
Continue to review and study, fully complete practical requirements, prepare for WA State exams, take final written and practical examinations.
